We all have the travel bug in us

Last night at a fascinating dinner do (defined by food) I got branded the person with the travel bug! Amidst ex-colleagues, bosses and a few friends they traded many a remark in good humour about my frequent travel breaks. I wasn't sure if they were complaining, or envious or plain unhappy about it. And then I reasoned did it matter?!:)

Mulling over 'the travel bug' remark this morning, the light rains helped resolve it nicely for me. What is the travel bug? Dont we all have it?

For the past few months I’ve been working on serious stuff, high voltage stuff - taken up all attention and energy and in turn has left me pining for some break time. Every time I see a plane take off…I am a wee bit nostalgic of those travelers on board who are onto a journey of sorts. I can’t help but wish I were on that plane heading to a new destination for new discoveries. Its like I have an inbuilt 'auto button' which trips every time the heart and mind demand time out.

My mum would say to me the travel bug is most present in me because I have moles on my feet and calf! Hence there will be lots of travel in my destiny:) Simplified? Guess the truth is one needs to crave discoveries and exploration and always be hungry to know and feel more. There is a world out there I want to know. I have this deep desire to travel to destinations unknown (even if it were to a remote small town outside my city - I would be as excited- as I would if I were traveling to Ibiza) - What is this longing for unknown and new destinations? Why does my pulse start to race when I think about autumn in the States, or the way the sun sparkles on the great mountains in Bhutan or the sense of history hanging over the Pyramids in Egypt? If I could, I would pack my bags this instant and jump on a plane headed anywhere but here for the sheer pleasure of getting a new stamp in my passport. O the thrill of something awaiting ahead, races through me. Or perhaps it’s the break from everyday discipline of life that has me transformed to top gear.

Kevin Costner said something very profound in the movie Rumor Has It - “Life has to be a little nuts sometimes. Otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.” I want to be able to travel to distances far and near, explore and discover, feel joyous and alive with new knowledge, new feelings, new discoveries, new interpretations - so that every time I look back I won’t be looking back on a collection of Thursdays, but on memories made in faraway places.

What is evident is that for me, the act of traveling entails two goals:1. Simply have fun 2. Completely immerse myself in the foreign

The absence of this kind of total immersion won’t break my trip, but perhaps it’s the thing that compels me to keep traveling. I believe it’s this quest for immersion that is changing my travel style to a deeper, slower one since it’s been difficult to find Ladhak-esque scenarios on my whirlwind trips.

Its a welcome infection the travel bug.The urge to travel opens the mind and heart, new vistas and experiences merge to form a ubiquitous new blend in life which is more patient, more understanding more tolerant. May the travel bug always stay with you Mee.

Mee, I do not have the travel bug ..have to be coaxed and cajoled to get out of my bean bag and am the happiest when the journey is over and I am heading home!

Travelling is sometimes burdensome since one has to prepare all the necessary materials one must bring while on travel. It also entails much money since travelling is not necessarily an affordable vacation, as a trip is best enjoyed if big amount of money is allotted. I'd like to travel lots but I cannot given my many priorities.

I really love to travel. I travel to see the landscape in different countries. I like to meet the local people, stay in beach huts or locally owned guest houses and to view native wildlife. I especially like tropical beaches and islands. I enjoy seeing palm trees and whit sand beaches. I really enjoy snorkeling and seeing colorful fish and coral. I like to try to speak some of the local language. I enjoy sightseeing in cities to look at interesting architecture. I like to take many photos, buy a costume doll and some postcards for my two different collections. I am an independent traveler that likes to tour round staying in a few different places during a trip. I have traveled around the world, been on a safari in Kenya and have toured the holy region of Israel. My favorite countries that I have been so far are Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, the Seychelles and Belize. The most beautiful cities that I have ever been to are Sydney, San Francisco, Prague, Budapest, Dubrovnik and Salzburg. I would love to go to Cape Town and Vancouver. I would love to go to South America to walk the Inca Trail and cruise round the Galapagos Islands. I wish you happy traveling.

Yes you're so right...There is so much more to explore and discover from our usual world we live in.It makes you realize some differences of culture other your own and make you more appreciative of what you are used to.

Lovely post. Guess it's also about the pure thrill of packing, carrying your lil tentative world in a suitcase, waiting to board the aircraft/ train/ bus/ car, the sleepless night before you leave to embark upon the journey and the journey itself. And of course finally being in that place you so wanted to visit. Enjoyed reading your post :D
