Bon Apetit in China

I thought being a vegetarian, this country - China, was not my cup of tea. So am putting what I saw there, to test with you guys. Duck's tongue. Pregnant frogs eggs. Snakes. Imagine any bird, animal, sea fish... and you have it on the table!! I was part of many sit down dinners and I know I looked bad not touching the food, not one morsel, but no wild horses could have made me either:( - the chef would feel bad and not understand why I wasn't eating, but I couldn't:( , all I know is in the 3 odd weeks I was there I survived- barely - on cheese, some breads and ice creams. And I was so missing home. If ever I go back to China I am carrying a truckload of food with me and I don't care what people say!

Tried most of it. The Beijing food street off Wangfujing is the place to go. Scorpion is worth a try. (For non-vegies that is)

I had a glimpse of all this stuff in one of the fwd mails; except fr the CFS(Chinese Fried Starfish alias fish pakoras) everything gav pukish feeling.
Kushwant Singh had rightly said "Chinese can eat everything tht flies except a plane nd everything that has four legs except furniture"
I hav quitted on non-veg except sea food bt in China everything seems to be ....

Well, there are veggies in China too! Guess you need to work hard to find a veg joint. We have a few people there who work in our plant there and are veg, and they have been surviving since a year. Any case, food packets will do you good and try the fruits and icecream and milk and chocolates!

Cheers

Holy Moses. Do they seriously eat this stuff there? I always thought it was a much created hype about these things with not much truth to it!

Not a very beautiful spread for the average weak hearted Mee. But some of these foods I have tried and they are pretty decent. Tho the one dish that has all Chinese go weak kneed is the noodles in chicken soup...not sure why they go ga ga about that tho..

Mee, I also wanted to add, you shld take whatever you need for your travel and not be hesitant abt this. Obviously China is still not geared to deal with various foreign tastes and requirements as yet
